The training function at Bemis is supported by a staff of professional Training Specialists in the Human Resources Department. Training Specialists provide three distinct educational services for the Bemis organization.
Quality training, such as ISO 9000 and quality systems information, is delivered to employees by members of the Quality Assurance staff.
When training needs cannot be met by in-house resources, we promote outside educational activities. Employees attend outside seminars and conferences on various topics as recommended by their supervisors or required for their position. In order to stay abreast of changing developments, Bemis sponsors employees’ individual membership in professional organizations. For example, Quality Managers at all sites are members of ASQ (American Society of Quality) and participate actively in educational activities sponsored by that organization. Corporate memberships are held with the American Society for Training and Development, and the American Management Association.
Employees may receive reimbursement for tuition and books for any job-related course taken at an accredited institution through our Tuition Reimbursement program.
All Bemis plants have established a comprehensive safety training program which includes all OSHA, DNR, EPA and DOT-mandated training requirements. Additional safety topics are executed as well, for example, programs exist for recreational/off-the-job safety training, substance abuse prevention and stress management.
To meet the needs for technical training, in addition to our Training Specialist/Technical Writer on staff, we maintain a close relationship with the local area technical college, which is a source for technical training as well as supervisory skills training. In addition to this relationship, our employee recruitment practices include sponsoring internships in mechanical and electrical engineering each year.
