(OSHKOSH, Wisconsin) – The Land O’ Frost® Dagwood’s Shaved Lunch Meat in Curwood’s EZ Peel® / Reseal Package is designed to provide user-friendly and convenient use for the consumer.

Land O Frost Dagwood PackageWith this specialized package, the consumer can purchase a multi-serve, shaved lunch meat package and access it without the use of a knife or scissors. When finished, the consumer can easily close the package by simply pressing the edges of the top film over the forming film. There is no need to transfer the contents to a secondary container for storage and later use.

The Dagwood package incorporates Curwood’s EZ Peel / Reseal technology into a semi-rigid forming film, which offers the product manufacturer an alternative to a zipper or tape closure. Curwood’s EZ Peel system involves a proprietary three-layer easy open system that offers superior machinability and sealing characteristics, resulting in a hermetically sealed, easy-open package. The incorporation of the reseal component allows the package to be resealed with mere fingertip pressure.

Curwood’s EZ Peel films perform like standard hard seal films on a packaging line. Dwell time and seal temperature are not affected, and packaging personnel will not see a change in hot tack or seal range from similar non-peelable films. Additionally, food packers have longed for the ability to make packages peelable and resealable, eliminating the need for zippers or tapes.

Typically, to incorporate recloseable features, capital investment is required for new or modified packaging equipment. With EZ Peel / Reseal technology, films can run on the existing packaging equipment without modifications and without affecting line speeds. Curwood’s semi-rigid forming films are supplied as roll stock. The roll stock is formed at the packaging site (as is the case for this package). The EZ Peel / Reseal technology may also be incorporated into a pre-formed tray to accommodate different production or machine requirements.

When the consumer pulls the seals to open this package, the EZ Peel Ionomer sealant fractures and provides controlled delamination. For the recloseable package, the system was modified so when the multilayer film is delaminated (opened), it exposes a tacky layer for resealability. Curwood’s 3-Layer EZ Peel system uses virgin sealants, which are able to seal through product contamination. Curwood can offer EZ Peel systems for a broad range of sealants, including Ionomer, polypropylene (PP), low-density (LDPE) polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), as well as the more common EVA and PE options.

For marketers, Curwood’s EZ Peel / Reseal film provides an opportunity to add functionality to existing packaging as a response to consumer needs, without adding significantly to their packaging costs and capital expense. The addition of a reseal component to the EZ Peel film offers an inexpensive upgrade for the convenience of recloseability for consumers. Also, the package may be pegged which allows merchandising options and optimum visibility on store shelves.
